At the start of Schoenecker's light novel of romantic suspense, the second in her Maine Shore Chronicles series (after Finding Fiona), ER nurse Clare Chamberlaine, while taking a sailing lesson in Saco Bay, notices a dead body entangled in a buoy. Sgt. Remi Windspirit, of the Maine Marine Patrol, takes charge of identifying the female victim in what proves to be a murder case, which soon becomes complicated by Remi and Clare's strong mutual attraction. Meanwhile, the woman Clare calls Tante Margaret, who raised Clare, uses her clairvoyant skills to offer vital clues to the investigation. Beautiful descriptions of Maine's coastal landscapes combined with warm and lovable characters will leave fans of sweet cozies eager for the next installment. (Mar.)

A contemporary tale of tender relationships, mayhem and mercy.  Moonglade is a compelling romantic suspense story.  A grisly find, a corpse in the boat channel, links Clare, the finder, to Sergeant Remi Windspirit in an investigation of the dead Jane Doe.  Clare and Remi's attraction grows from the first interrogation, but seems unlikely when the investigation turns into a homicide.  You will  be cheering the love match on as the mystery unfolds in this suspenseful tale which straddles the genres of cozy mystery and sweet romance.

'Moonglade' is the second book in the Maine Shore Chronicles.  After reading this, you'll want to pick up the first book in the series.  I know I do.

Most people who read my reviews know I love quick short chapters.  This definitely fits the bill.  The writing and characters remind me of a Mary Higgins Clark book.

The characters, Remi and Clare, are thrown together because of the investigation.  Yet, their relationship tends to take a backseat due to the twists and turns of uncovering who is responsible for the death of Jane Doe.  The secondary characters not only help the investigation, they help bring the story to life and keep the story flowing in a sweet and helpful way for Remi and Clare.  I personally was captivated by Clare's mom, Tante Margaret.  She is a feisty older woman, who reminded me of my  grandmother.

I also loved the influence of the French language that is used sporadically through the story.  It gave the story a touch of romance.

I hope there are more books to follow in this series.  They will definitely be kept on my keeper shelf.  Please pick up this book when it is released, you wont be disappointed.

COFFEE TIME ROMANCE REVIEW

Rating: 4 cups

Clare Chamberlain is a nurse in the local ER.  Her parents died when she was young, and she was raised by her Aunt Margaret, who is part French Canadian and part Native American, and Psychic.

Remi Windspirit is a Sergeant with the Maine Marine Patrol and a former local hockey star.  He is tall, handsome, and intrigued by Clare.  He wants to get to know her better, but cannot let his personal life interfere with his work.

At the end of a sailing lesson, Clare and her best friend's brother, Paul, come upon a corpse in the water near the boat's mooring.  The investigation includes the tall, dark and handsome Remi Windspirit.  Their relationship could put Clare and her beloved Tante in danger.

This is a very well-written and engrossing mystery.  The characters and the plot drew me in quickly, and I found myself unable to put it down.  The characters are vividly drawn and though not typical to every small town, they fit into this quirky Maine community well.  My favorites were Tante Margaret and Remi's Scottish stepmother.  Clare and Remi's romance develops slowly but surely.  The mystery develops in the same manner and this method works wonderfully well, leading us to the killer and a very satisfying ending to a good story.

In this first book of a trilogy you will find something from life―my maternal Grandmother’s life― inspired in the novel’s story line. FINDING FIONA is a contemporary story with a turn of the century twist. Maddy Fontaine lands a teaching job in the mill town where she grew up. A hurricane strikes sending Maddy back in time. Not your ordinary time travel sequence, but a short pre-destined trip influenced by psychic, Tante Margaret; a trip destined to unravel the mystery of Fiona’s disappearance. Mysticism clashes with faith- filled people, inextricably weaving lives together on a journey to find Fiona. It is a tale of romance and suspense that will leave you wanting more.

She’s involved in a caustic relationship and planning to get out. He’s got secrets he’s not sure how to share. Both realize that sometimes love is enough to sort out life’s problems. Add a pinch of psychic ability and a healthy dose of faith and you have Finding Fiona.

Ms. Schoenecker writes a compelling and unique novel of love, forgiveness, and redemption. Her scenes are rich with details, making the reader feel like he or she is truly on the Maine coast. You can easily empathize with the characters as they go through the story. Her use of time travel and the psychic abilities of the secondary characters added a twist of individuality and hooked the reader.

The underlying current of finding the mysterious Fiona adds tension to the love story and keeps the reader engaged. I enjoyed the sprinkling of Gaelic and French. This made the characters unique and added color to the story.

If you want an inspirational read that mixes current events with problems from the past, then
Finding Fiona is the novel for you. If you want a sweet read that tugs at your heartstrings, then this is definitely the story for you. I give this novel 4.5 books.

FINDING FIONA is an excellent read. Grabs you immediately & doesn't let you put it down. Schoenecker's skills as a wordsmith between two separate time periods dodges in & out seamlessly. Entertaining, well researched & slips a little history in your back pocket.

REVIEWS

"Four Summers Waiting is a beautifully told story. In addition to the war, fans experience restrictions placed on women and their roles during the 1800’s. I found this to be a very well written tale – fiction based upon fact — and readers will learn much about a very difficult time in our country’s history in addition to enjoying a sweet romance that takes place over four summers."
